HISTORY
You are here: home page > history

North York Iron & Metal Salvage
was founded in the 1950s by Alec Rotman and Al Tobe. Art Tobe became a partner in 1966. In the 1970s the company moved to its current location and the business changed from dealing mostly in scrap metal to selling primarily new material. The company name became North York Iron in 1986.

Art Tobe still spends the summer working in the yard, and Neil Tobe and Shale Tobe currently own and operate the company. Neil has been working in the office since high school, for over thirty years now, and Shale since graduating Queen's University in 1986. Since then, several of Neil's children have also started working at North York Iron, and Shale's children will likely do the same.
